CEDAR FALLS - Janet Elaine McClain, 60, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, at Allen Hospital.

She was born Oct. 12, 1950, in Chicago, daughter of Chester James and Lue Willa Carter Williams.

She graduated from Forrestville High School in 1968. She received a bachelor's degree in education from Northern Illinois University, and a master's degree from University of Dayton. She taught first grade in Centerville, Ohio, and taught at Price Lab and University of Northern Iowa for more than 30 years. Mrs. McClain was a member of Open Bible Church, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated, a board member of Alternatives Pregnancy Center, and various professional and civic organizations. She hosted a radio talk show on KBBG and was a former director of Minorities in Teaching program at UNI. Her emphasis and passion was on multicultural education and diversity.

Survived by: a daughter, Ajanet McClain of Nashville, Tenn.; three siblings, Michael (Henrietta) Williams of Rockford, Ill., Sheilah Trigg of Smyrna, Ga., and Carla (Melvin) Duffy of Powder Springs, Ga.; and six nieces and nephews, Johnice Williams, Michael Williams, Jr., Carla Trigg Childs, Kenneth Trigg, and Jasmine and Jessica Duffy.

Preceded in death by: her parents.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Open Bible Church, Waterloo, with burial in Restvale Cemetery, Alsip, Ill. at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Public visitation from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Open Bible Church. Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, Waterloo, is assisting the family.

Memorials: in lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to the American Cancer Society, Open Bible Youth Group, or Trinity Broadcasting Network.
