WATERLOO - Vernon E. Scribner, 92, of Waterloo, died Friday, Oct. 15, at his home following a long illness.

He was born May 18, 1918, in Janesville, son of Glen Allen and Hannah Theresa Miller Scribner. He married Mary Alice Snyder Aug. 28, 1943, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

He attended school in Waterloo. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. The couple farmed near Waterloo, Lawler, and Independence, retiring in 1998. Mr. Scribner was an agricultural truck driver. He attended First Baptist Church in Independence.

Survived by: his wife; three daughters, Susan (Robert) Smith of Mount Pleasant, Sheila Scribner of Des Moines and Sheri (Norman) Klein of Altoona; a son, Kenneth (Mary) Scribner of Ocala, Fla.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and a sister, Erma Solkiewicz of Chagrin Falls, Ohio.

Preceded in death by: an infant grandson; three sisters, Katherine Scribner, Alzina Renner and Esther Colel; and four brothers, Clarence Scribner, Charles Scribner, Howard Scribner and Francis Scribner.

Graveside services: 2 p.m. Monday at Hazleton Cemetery, Hazleton. Public visitation from 2 to 6 p.m. today at White Funeral Home of Independence.

Memorial fund: has been established.
