WATERLOO — Merlyn "Mert" Wrage, 68, of Waterloo, formerly of Traer and Reinbeck, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, at Covenant Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 1, 1942, in Reinbeck, son of Henry and Lucile Horstman Wrage. He married Connie Joan Marks on Aug. 25, 1962, at St. Timothy’s United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls.

He graduated from Gladbrook High School in 1959. Mr. Wrage farmed with his father and in Dinsdale and worked at John Deere in Waterloo, retiring in 2004. He was a member of St. Timothy’s United Methodist Church and a volunteer service worker at Covenant Medical Center.

Survived by: his wife; two daughters, Stacey (Dean) Helstrom of Litchfield, Minn., and Sharri (Randy) Claassen of Parkersburg; a son, Shane (Julie) of Polk City; and eight grandchildren, Taylor and Breanna Berry, Braden, Devin and Dylan Claassen and Sydnee, Micaela and Reece Wrage.

Preceded in death by: his parents, Henry and Lucile.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Timothy’s United Methodist Church, with burial in Reinbeck Cemetery, Reinbeck. Public visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. today at French-Hand Funeral Home, Reinbeck.

Mert loved the outdoors. He completed his first RAGBRAI five years ago, which was a lifelong dream of his. He also loved spending time with his family.
