CEDAR FALLS - Tyrola Clarice Smith, 92, of Red Wing, Minn., formerly of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, at Fairview Seminary Home, Red Wing.

She was born Sept. 12, 1918, in Hendricks, Minn., daughter of Christ and Gertie Sand Wold. She married Paul R. Smith on March 10, 1945, in Topeka, Kan. He died in 2003.

She graduated from Hendricks High School and attended nursing school in Watertown, S.D. She served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a registered nurse and received rank as a second lieutenant. The couple lived in Colorado Springs, Colo., Hayes, Kan., Cedar Falls, St. Paul, Minn., and Pequot Lakes, Minn. They had a summer home in Nisswa and wintered many years in Florida. She was an active member of Lutheran Church of the Cross in Nisswa.

Survived by: two daughters, Patricia (Ed) Erickson of Madison, Wis., and Cheryl (Scott) Friese of Red Wing; a son, Cris (Christine) of Pequot Lakes; seven grandchildren, Anne Eggenberg, Tim Erickson, Nina Sargent, Zachary Smith, Zane Smith, Adrian Friese and Kelsey Gianou; and six great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: four sisters.

Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Brigid's at Hi Park Chapel, with burial in Minnesota State Veteran's Cemetery, Little Falls, Minn. Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

She was a loving mother and enjoyed sewing, knitting, gardening and was fond of flowers.
