WATERLOO— Denise A. Smith, 52, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, at Allen Hospital.

She was born Sept. 22, 1958, in Waterloo, daughter of Ed and Sharon Mohrman Kemp. She married John L. Smith on Dec. 16, 1978, in Waterloo.

Mrs. Smith was employed at the Logan Avenue Hy-Vee Store for the last 17 years, most recently as an assistant manager. She had formerly worked at Pat's Tavern.

Survived by: her husband; a daughter, Dawn Smith (Elmer Batz) of Waterloo; a stepdaughter, Kim Colson of Waterloo; two grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Alex Colson; a sister, Mary (Tim) Laidig of Fairbank; several nieces and nephews including Jason Albright (Kris Leohr), Scott Albright (Allie Ewing) and Cody Laidig; two great-nieces, Alexis and Aubrey Albright; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Preceded in death by: her parents; her stepfather, Walt Mohrman; her grandparents, Edward and Zelma Tann; a son, Jeremy Smith on Aug. 29, 2007; and a sister, Debra Faircloth.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday at Garden View Chapel, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and for an hour before services Friday at the chapel.

Memorials: may be directed to the family.

Denise loved spending time with her family. She was a great Mom, enjoyed cooking and she liked to feed the birds and squirrels at her home.
