WATERLOO — Marilyn Rath Dempster, 78, of Rockford, Ill., formerly of Waterloo, died at home Saturday, Sept. 25, following an extended illness.

She was born June 13, 1932, in Waterloo, daughter of Howard and Mary Brown Rath.

Ms. Dempster received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa and was a former legal secretary.

Survived by: two sons, William of Roscoe, Ill., and Tom of Rockford; and her former husband, John Dempster.

Preceded in death by: a sister, Betty Jane Reichert.

Graveside services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements by Sundberg Funeral Home, Rockford.

Memorials: may be directed to American Cancer Society.
