WATERLOO — Joyce "Jody" Palmer Sitz, 78, of Chapel Hill, N.C., formerly of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, at home of ovarian cancer.

She was born Dec. 4, 1931, in Aurora, Ill., daughter of William and Mayme Palmer. She married Dr. Edward "Bud" Sitz on Feb. 12, 1955. He died in 2000.

She graduated from the University of Iowa in 1954, where she was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority and a drummer in the Scottish Highlanders. She was an active member in several Waterloo organizations, including PEO and the Black Hawk County Medical Auxiliary. In 1986, the couple retired to Chapel Hill.

Survived by: a sister, Jean Seay of Aurora, Ill.; four sons, Stephen of Highlands, N.C., Tom of Denver, Colo., Peter of San Diego and Mark of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and three grandchildren.

Memorial reception: was held at Carolina Meadows retirement community in Chapel Hill on Sept. 10.
