Gordon E. Watters, 76, of Waterloo, died Friday, November 28, 2003, at Allen Memorial Hospital. Gordon was born May 13, 1927, in Dunkerton, son of Raleigh Gordon and Agnes (Faulkner) Watters. He grew up in Hudson and attended Hudson High School.

Just before graduation, Gordon joined the U.S. Navy, serving as a SeaBee on Okinawa at the close of WWII.

Gordon married Phyllis Haberstich on December 21, 1947 in Waterloo. He was a partner in Austin & Watters Skelly Station and G & G Skelly working as a mechanic and station owner. After the service stations he was Northeast Iowa distributor for Bowes Seal Fast, a salesman for Harper Cleaning Supplies, and finally a volunteer at Allen Memorial Hospital.

Gordon is survived by his wife Phyllis; three daughters, Margaret Murders and Rebecka (Thomas) Wagner, both of Waterloo, and Elise (James) Thurm of Rapid City, SD; six grandchildren, Christopher (Angie) Murders, Nathan (April) Murders, Jason Thurm, Jennifer Thurm, Benjamin Wagner, and Emily Wagner; three great granddaughters. Ava, Brenden, and Shelby Murders; three brothers, Elvin of Hudson, Dale and Darrell, both of Waterloo; and a sister Ruth Oliphant of Waterloo.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, son in law A.V. Murders, sister Ethel Aschenbrenner, and an infant brother.
