ELK RUN HEIGHTS — Edward James "Jim" Russell, 80, of Elk Run Heights, died Saturday, Sept. 18, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo.

He was born July 3, 1930, in Chicago, son of Edward and Johanna Schmitt Dinnebier. He married Geneva Nie on Oct. 10, 1955, in Gilbertville.

Mr. Russell served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954. He was employed with Rath Packing Co. for 30 years and also was employed with Starlight Village Hotel as a houseman until 2004.

Survived by: his wife; a son, Michael (Jeanie) of Delhi; two daughters, Teresa (Michael) Nie of Elk Run Heights and Cindy (Michael) Anderson of Waterloo; four grandchildren, Matthew and Ashley Anderson of Waterloo and Cole and Morgan Nie of Elk Run Heights; a brother, Paul (Zelda) Dinnebier of Waterloo; five sisters, Ruth (Phil) Laughlin of Knoxville, Helen (Arnie) Kurtz of Ashland, Mo., Barb (Tom) Miller of Fairbank, Linda (Larry) Dowie of Monticello and Mari (Ted) Gerdes of Cedar Falls; a special cousin, Jean Story of Fairbank; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: his parents; a brother-in-law, Eugene Nie; and a nephew, Buddy Kurtz.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Full military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 138 and VFW Post 1623. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, Waterloo, where there will be a 4 p.m. Legion of Mary rosary and 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also an hour before services Wednesday at the church.
