WATERLOO, IOWA — Charles Robert Clute, 85, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at home of natural causes.

He was born Sept. 22, 1924, in Waterloo, son of Charles C. Clute and Dorothy Guyger. He married Doris Nelson on Oct. 15, 1950, in Waterloo. She died in 1978.

Mr. Clute was the former owner of Clute’s Supermarket in Waterloo. He served in the U.S. Army.

Survived by: a daughter, Cheryl (Steven) Shapiro of Oak Park, California; a son, Charles Dean (Patricia) Clute of La Quinta, California; and a grandson.

Preceded in death by: a son, Craig R. Clute; and a brother, Richard.

Private burial: Friday at Elmwood Cemetery. There will be no public visitation. Sanders Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials: may be directed to ALS Association or American Diabetes Association.
