SCHMITZ, BURBACH, SADLER, MCGEE, FISCHELS, MANGRICH

RAYMOND — George B. Schmitz, 74, of rural Jesup, died at his home Wednesday, Sept. 1, following a sudden illness.

He was born March 13, 1936, in Waterloo, son of Frank S. and Helen Catherine Burbach Schmitz. On Jan. 16, 1961, he married Rita Ann Sadler at St. Francis Catholic Church-Barcley, Dunkerton.

Mr. Schmitz graduated from Our Lady of Victory Academy, Waterloo, in 1954, then attended seminary college for two years in Silver Springs, Md., and served in the U.S. Army during peace time. He was a plumber and also worked at Rath Packing before he decided to farm full time. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Raymond, where he was a past parish council member.

Survived by: his wife; a son, Bernie (Dorene Robinson) of Jesup; a daughter, Veronica (Richard) McGee of Huxley; five grandchildren, Emily, Samantha, Mitchell and Abby McGee, and Hailey Schmitz; three brothers, Matt of Jesup, Ted (Mary Jo) of Independence and Fritz (Phoebe) of Norman, Okla.; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: his parents; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen and Vincent Fischels and Agnes and Donald Mangrich; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Schmitz.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Raymond, with burial in church cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by Nugent-Demuth American Legion Post 714 of Gilbertville. Public visitation from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at White Funeral Home, Jesup, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service.

Memorials: may be directed to the church or Don Bosco Building Fund, Gilbertville.

George was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and enjoyed being innovative on the farm.
