Wilhelmina Krueckeberg, January 10, 1949, Tripoli – “Funeral Here Today At St. John’s for Mrs. Kruckeberg [sic]. Passes Away Early Monday Morning; Was Born in Germany. Funeral services were held at 1:30 this (Wednesday) afternoon from the Meier funeral home in Tripoli to St. John’s Ev. Lutheran church for Mrs. Wilhelmina Kruckeberg [sic], 87. Rev. Eric Durnbusch, pastor of St. Matthew’s Lutheran church at Readlyn, had charge of the service and burial was in St. John’s cemetery, southeast of town. Casket bearers were six great grandchildren, Warren Sauerbrei, Warren Nolting, Junior Nicklaus, Leo Sauerbrei, Virgil Bonorden and Ray Wellman. Mrs. Kruckeberg [sic] had made her home here with a daughter, Mrs. George Sauerbrei. She had been ill for some time and gradually grew weaker as she was unable to partake of any food for more than 50 days. The end came early Monday morning. Obituary: Wilhelmina Suhr Kruckeberg [sic] was born July 23, 1861, at Segelhorst, Germany, where in early infancy she received the blessings of holy baptism and where after the regular religious instruction she was also confirmed. On Nov. 7, 1879, she entered holy matrimony with Wilhelm Kruckeberg [sic]. Two children were born to this union, Mrs. Minna Sauerbrei of Tripoli and Mrs. Johanna Wellman of Waterloo. In the year 1894 the family came to America and lived near Maynard for a number of years. Then in 1903 they moved to Jubilee where they lived until 1926 on several farms. After that Mr. and Mrs. Kruckeberg [sic] made their home with the Walter Sauerbreis near Readlyn. Mr. Kruckeberg [sic] passed away in 1935, but ‘Mutter’ Kruckeberg [sic] as she was known by the entire community, remained with the Walter Sauerbrei family until about three years ago, when because of the infirmities of old age she decided to stay with her daughter, Mrs. Mina Sauerbrei. The deceased is survived by three sisters: Mrs. Anna Huegli of West Union, Mrs. Will Heinemann of Waterloo, Mrs. Carrie Joungman [Yungmann] of Waterloo; three brothers and four sisters preceded her in death. Besides her two daughters and her three sisters she is survived by either grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. A host of other relatives and friends honor her memory. She has been a faithful member of St. John’s church in Tripoli since 1926 and before that at Jubilee and Maynard.” Tripoli newspaper, January 12, 1949.
