WATERLOO — Carrie E.L. Bowers Miller, 87, of Lawrence, Kan., formerly of Waterloo, died at home July 26.

She was born May 22, 1923, in Marshalltown, daughter of William A. and Violet Holden Bowers. She married Clyde "Bob" Miller at Alameda Naval Base, Calif. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Miller graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1942, and served as a seaman 1st Class in the U.S. Navy (WAVES) during World War II. During her lifetime she was a homemaker, foster mom and Waterloo Public Schools employee.

Survived by: three daughters, Linda (Walt) Klinker of Lawrence, Nancy (Doug) Black of Holly Lake Ranch, Texas, and Peggy (Lee) Wilhelms of Shell Rock; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Gerald Joe Bowers of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by: a brother, Max Bowers; and a sister, Betty Sue (Bowers) Garber.

Services: were Aug. 1 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, Lawrence. A memorial service will be held at Lamb of God Lutheran Church, Lake Havasu City, Ariz., on Aug. 14 at 11 a.m., with inurnment in Mount Olive Columbarium, Lake Havasu City.
