WATERLOO - Mildred C. Cowan, 101, of Ridgeway Place, died there Friday, July 30, of natural causes.

She was born March 19, 1909, in Hampton, daughter of Cornelius and Lillian Crouse Dirksen. She married Clinton B. Cowan on June 15, 1941, in New Hampton. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Cowan graduated from high school and was employed as a model and clerk at the James Black Department Store for several years. She also was employed in the payroll department at John Deere for several years. Most recently she was employed as a secretary at First Presbyterian Church on Franklin Street.

Survived by: two stepdaughters, Donna Kreisberg of Washington, D.C., and Patricia Adams of Arlington Heights, Ill.; several nieces and nephews; and three stepgrandchildren.

Preceded in death by: two sisters, Avis O'Brien and Jane Sandstrom; and three brothers, John W., Robert and Raymond Dirksen.

Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church on Franklin Street, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials: may be given in her name to the church.
