WATERLOO - Charles Stimson, 81, of Waterloo, formerly of Manchester and Earlville, died at home Saturday, July 31.

He was born June 15, 1929, in Masonville, son of Oliver and Margaret Jones Stimson. He married Mary Diesch in 1952, and they later divorced.

Mr. Stimson graduated from Manchester High School in 1947. He and his former wife operated a trucking business in Earlville. He then became a heavy-equipment operator for Youngblut Construction and, after retiring, drove cars for various car dealerships in Waterloo. He also was a licensed pilot for 40 years.

Survived by: longtime friend, Delores Ott of Waterloo; two daughters, Joan (Dave) Nason of Iowa City and Judy (Mark) Helmrichs of Earlville; a son, Gene of Earlville; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Frances (Dean) Carradus of Sycamore, Ill., Fern Clang of Crawfordsville and Grace (Dale) Crippen of Manchester; and a brother, Dean (Norma) of Decatur, Ill.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home & Crematory, Manchester, with burial at 1:30 p.m. in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo. Public visitation from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
