Helen Juanita Hadley, 101, of Waterloo, Iowa died Monday December 27, 2010 at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center of natural causes. Services were held on December 29 at Hammond Avenue Brethren Church with burial at a later date. Parrott and Wood Chapel of Memories was in charge of arrangements.

Helen was born July 17, 1909 in Iowa City, Iowa, the adopted daughter of Harvey and Ida Mae Saylor. She married George Franklin Hadley in June 1931. He died November 23, 1972. She graduated from Waterloo West High School and received a registered nursing degree in Waterloo. She worked as an RN at many places. She received a bachelor's degree from Upper Iowa University at the age of 75. She received a master's degree in social work from the University of Northern Iowa at the age of 77. She worked at Black Hawk - Grundy Mental Health Center until she was 86 years old. She was an accomplished pianist. She was a member of Hammond Avenue Brethren Church. She and her husband owned and operated Blue Ribbon Market and later the George and George Pet Shop in Waterloo.

She is survived by two sons, George Harvey (Lynea) Hadley of San Diego, California and LeMoyne Franklin (Judith) Hadley of Corvallis, Oregon; a daughter, Mary Helen (Dan Prochaska) of Randalia, Iowa; six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers Robert Saylor and Roland Richards, and two sisters, Reva Richards, and Rena Richards Stejskal.
