Soldier Answered Call.

Passed Away in Soldiers' Home at Marshalltown.

August Steinmeyer, who is well known in Waterloo and has a wide circle of friends, passed away Wednesday morning at 8:50 in a hospital ward of the soldiers' home in Marshalltown. Death was due to a stroke of paralysis.

He was a native of Germany, and enlisted at Milwaukee in the Third Wisconsin battery Feb. 17, 1864. His discharge dates from July 7, 1865, at Milwaukee. Mr. Steinmeyer was admitted to the home from Dubuque Aug. 14, 1904. He is survived by a wife, three sons and one daughter. The widow, Mrs. Sarah B. Steinmeyer, and one son, Samuel, reside at Streator, Ill., while another son, Carl, lives in Reinbeck, and the other, Harry, at Waterloo. The daughter, Mrs. Adelia Orsinger, resides at Dubuque.

Death of A. Steinmeyer

Former Waterloo Restaurant Man Expires at Marshalltown

August Steinmeyer, formerly a resident of Waterloo, where he conducted a restaurant, passed away at 8:50 o'clock yesterday morning at Marshalltown, where he was a member of the Soldiers' Home. At the time of death he was 71 years old. he was born in Germany, but came to this country when a boy, enlisting at Milwaukee in the Third Wisconsin battery Feb. 17, 1864. He was discharged July 7, 1865, at Milwaukee. Mr. Steinmeyer is survived by a wife, three sons and one daughter. The widow, Sarah B. Steinmeyer, and one son, Samuel, reside at Streator, Ill., Carl lives in Reinbeck, Harry in Waterloo and Mrs. Adelia Orsinger in Dubuque. The funeral arrangements had not been made yesterday.

Mr. Steinmeyer was a jolly fellow and his rotund form and rollicking humor will be recalled by many residents of Waterloo. He operated a restaurant on Commercial street and was very successful. Several years ago he removed from the city. He was admitted to the Soldiers' Home from Dubuque in the summer of 1904. Of late years his health has been very poor.
