WATERLOO - Billy Richard Jones, 84, of Waterloo, died Friday, July 9, at Shell Rock Health Care Center, Shell Rock of natural causes.

He was born Aug. 4, 1925, in Shell Rock, son of Dewey Richard and Mable Miller Jones. He married Lois Arlene Manson on Feb. 21, 1947, in Waterloo. She preceded him in death. He married Darlene Slight Loomis on April 27, 2001. She died Sept. 18, 2005.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a firefighter for the Waterloo Fire Dept. for 27 years, retiring Aug. 4, 1980.

Survived by: a stepson, Russ (Terry) Slight of Osage; two stepdaughters, Linda (Don) Rinnels of Shell Rock and Sharon (Ted) Melohn of Stout; 10 stepgrandchildren; and a niece, Karilyn (Dennis) Ellermann of Parkersburg.

Preceded in death by: three brothers, Jimmy, Donald and Robert; and a sister, Virginia Jones

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Linden United Methodist Church, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, Independence. Full military rites will be conducted by the Waterloo AMVETS Post 19, Evansdale AMVETS Post 31 and the Iowa Army National Guard. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway. Visitation will also be for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.
