WATERLOO - Betty J. Briscoe, 81, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, July 7, at Grandview Health Care Center, Oelwein.

She was born March 4, 1929, in Waterloo, daughter of Leonard and Cora Gray Frye. She married J. R. Briscoe on Nov. 6, 1949, in Waterloo. They later divorced.

She was employed in the sliced bacon department of Rath Packing Co. for 34 years.

Survived by: a daughter, Cherri Briscoe of Waterloo; a son, James R. Briscoe of Redding, Calif.; a child of the heart, Nicole Cooley of Kansas City, Mo.; two grandsons, Brett and Jason (Melissa Heasley) Kloberdanz; and a sister, Helen (George) Gilbert of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by: an infant daughter, Janice Marie; two sisters, Evelyn Shipp and Berdean Zabel; and a brother, Leonard Frye, Jr.

Services: 1 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. today and for an hour before services Monday at the funeral home.
