[Waterloo Courier, Sunday, June 27, 2010]

On May 29, Jane Friesen (nee Schneider), passed away at the St. Boniface hospital at the age of 64 years. She was predeceased by her father, Joseph Schneider.

Jane leaves to mourn her passing, Orly her husband of 43 years; sons, Erik (Emily) and Kevin (Georgina); her mother, Ethel Mae Schneider; brother Wayne (Paula), sister Joan, Orly's seven siblings and their spouses, two grandchildren, 23 nieces and nephews and their children, and numerous close friends.

Jane grew up in Cedar Falls, graduated from the State College of Iowa in 1967 and moved to Winnipeg after her marriage. She taught music in Winnipeg area schools, including six years at Norberry School, and taught many private piano and voice students. Her greatest joy was playing the organ and conducting church choirs, 32 years at Bethel Mennonite and 10 at Faith Lutheran. Her Christian faith was most prominently expressed through music and song. She sang in several choirs including Faith and Life Singers, Winnipeg Singers, the Mennonite Festival Chorus and the Manitoba Opera, and served as Royal Conservatory of Music examinations representative for 13 years.

Jane suffered from lupus since early adulthood, and in spite of ongoing drug and surgical treatments and eventual kidney failure, she kept a positive and hopeful outlook on life. She particularly enjoyed many family holiday trips across Canada, the United States and Europe. Friends were always welcome in her home and were ensured of being served generous "Jane sized" desserts.

Special thanks to the numerous doctors and nurses at the St. Boniface Hospital and the Health Sciences Centre who provided dedicated and compassionate care and treatment to her for 40 years and did everything possible to maintain her health. There will be a memorial service for Jane at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, in the TV Room at Mallard Point, 2603 Orchard Drive, Cedar Falls
