Former Cedar Falls resident, Kathleen Kirston McKenzie, passed away June 15, 2010, in Overland Park, Kan.

Kathy was born March 26, 1961, in Vinton, daughter of Jack and Janice McKenzie. She graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1979 and earned a bachelors degree in fine art from the University of Northern Iowa in 1984. She married Daniel Boss of Cedar Falls in 1991 and Gregory Dermer in 2006.

Survivors include two brothers, Chris McKenzie of Overland Park and Kevin McKenzie of Gilbertville; one nephew, Cody McKenzie of Waterloo; two nieces, Shelby McKenzie of Gilbertville and Dr. Vanessa Ren of Prairie Village, Kan.; and one great-nephew, Kallan Ren of Prairie Village.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Janice Alene Closson North of Waterloo and Jack McCallum McKenzie of San Diego; and grandparents, Carl and Constance DeLapp of Waterloo.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, June 29, at 11:30 a.m. at Garden of Memories Cemetery, 3669 Logan Ave., Waterloo. Immediately following, the family invites friends and family to join them at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 207 W. Louise St., Waterloo, for food and time to remember and celebrate the life of Kathy.

Memorials may be directed to Pets For Life, Inc., an organization where Kathy and her dog Kika volunteered time. Contributions may be sent directly to them in Kathy's name at 7420 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO 64114.
