[Waterloo Courier, Thursday, June 10, 2010]

Beverly June Faucher, 84, of Rosewood Estates, died Tuesday, June 8, at home.

Beverly June Nelson was born Jan. 8, 1926, in Fort Dodge, the daughter of Elma Ford Nelson and Hildreth Nelson. The family moved to Waterloo when Bev was a toddler. Her father, "Battling" Nelson, was a welterweight boxer who died in the ring in Cedar Rapids when Bev was only 4, leaving her, three siblings and his wife.

Bev graduated from East High School. She worked at Montgomery Ward, where she met her husband, Norman Faucher. They were regulars at Electric Park Ballroom dances, and the kids loved watching them dance. Norm and Bev married in 1953 and had three children. Bev was a homemaker and volunteered at several places in the area, including the Red Cross, Schoitz Hospital and St. Edward's Church. She was a strong believer in "neighboring" and loved helping out whenever needed, whether it be a lonely widower next door or her best friend with nine children who lived up the street. She was an avid reader and loved to play cribbage. She loved many different kinds of music and always encouraged music being played in the home, even though she didn't always appreciate the music of the '60s and '70s. She and Norm traveled extensively and wintered in Texas for many years. She enjoyed traveling, but loved coming home. She loved her family dearly, and they were always No. 1 to her. She will be sadly missed and forever loved. She had a mischievous sense of humor and infectious laugh. Her passing leaves a hole in our hearts.

Beverly is survived by her children, Clarice (Jim) Parry of Cameron Park, Calif., Kathy Faucher Carper of Waterloo and Joseph (Karen) Faucher of Calabasas, Calif.; her grandchildren, Jennifer (Miles) Alexander of Sunnyvale, Calif., Jill (Nick) Kreger Mertes of West Des Moines, Benjamin Kreger of Cedar Rapids and Amanda Faucher of Calabasas; her great-grandchildren, Evan and Sydney Alexander; her sisters, Dixie (Del) Kendall of Cedar Falls and Verda Guyer of Waterloo; her sister-in-law, Jean Nelson of Waterloo; and goddaughter, Theresa McCrae.

Preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother, William Nelson.

A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 11, at St. Edward's Catholic Church, with entombment in Mount Olivet Columbarium. Public visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, with a vigil service at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Edward's Church, Cedar Valley Hospice or the Alzheimer's Association.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff at Friendship Village and Rosewood who lovingly cared for Bev. We will never forget you, and Mom loved you.
