LA PORTE CITY - Marion Irene Foss, 87, of La Porte City, died Saturday, May 22, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, of natural causes.

She was born Sept. 8, 1922, on the family farm in rural Garrison, daughter of Harry Roscoe and Alpha Irene Cross Merchant. She married Aiden Ashley "Bud" Foss on Oct. 29, 1944, in La Porte City. He died Sept. 18, 2006.

Mrs. Foss was a 1940 graduate of Garrison High School and worked at Collins Radio, Cedar Rapids, before her marriage. She and her husband farmed. She was a member of the Legion Auxiliary and St. Paul United Methodist Church, La Porte City, where she was active in the Joy Gentleness Circle.

Survived by: a son, Richard (Lynette) of La Porte City; two daughters, Pamela (Otto) Claassen of Van Horne and Nancy (Bernard) Jones of Marshalltown; a sister, Jean Sides of La Porte City; three grandchildren, Joseph (Brenda) and James Notch and Brenda Anderson; and a great-grandchild, Madeline Notch.

Preceded in death by: four brothers, Clyde and Myron Merchant and two brothers in infancy; and two sisters, Kathryn Jensen and Maxine Kearns.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul United Methodist Church, with burial in West View Cemetery, both in La Porte City. Public visitation after 3 p.m. Tuesday at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home, Vinton, and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to La Porte City Ambulance service, St. Paul United Methodist Church or Camp Courageous.

Marion loved dancing, playing cards, fishing and traveling. Her greatest joy in life was her family.
