WATERLOO - Ralph L. Barrows, 87, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, May 11, at Lakeview Lodge, Friendship Village.

He was born July 24, 1922, in Tama County, son of Rosco and Anna Kubik Barrows. He married Virginia M. Pullin on Nov. 18, 1940, in Bethany, Mo.

Beginning in a local grocery store during high school, sales became his lifelong career. Mr. Barrows graduated from Orange Township High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his discharge from the Navy, he worked for Frozen Foods in Mason City, Walter Meier Inc. in Milwaukee and Waterloo and later became co-owner of Barrows Brokerage Co. He was in the seafood brokerage business for more than 50 years.

Survived by: his wife; three sons, James R. (Carole) of Waterloo, Jerry L. of Portland, Ore., and David M. (Maxine) of Waterloo; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: his parents; and two brothers, Merle and Dale.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at South Waterloo Church of the Brethren, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Locke Funeral Home.
