HUDSON — Joyce M. Swomley, 82, of Hudson, died Monday, May 3, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo, of cancer.

She was born Aug. 19, 1927, in Ryan, daughter of Henry and Margaret Katherine Otten Nagel. She married Arthur D. Swomley on July 18, 1946, in Pierce, S.D. He died July 18, 1996

Mrs. Swomley retired as a clerk at the Hudson Post Office.

Survived by: a daughter, Barbara (Ron) Brickman of Raymond; two sons, Dean (Angela) of Lawrenceburg, Ind., and Dave (Katherine) of Hudson; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jean Damm of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by: her parents; a son, Dale; a grandson, Stacey Brown; a great-granddaughter, Whitley Brown; four brothers, Donald, Howard, Herb and Gerald Nagel; and a sister, Helena Goodrich.

Services: 1 p.m. Thursday at Community Church of Hudson, with burial in Hudson Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 6:30 p.m. today at Locke Funeral Home, Waterloo.

Memorials: may be directed to the family.

Joyce loved to sew, study the Bible, and her flower beds were admired by many in the Hudson area. She was a true homemaker, and her grandchildren were her pride and joy.
