WATERLOO - Murphy Carter, 65, of Waterloo, died Thursday, April 29, at Country View care center of natural causes.

He was born March 15, 1945, in Jackson, Miss., the son of Murphy Carter Sr. and Mary Frances Carter. He married Effie Montgomery on April 7, 2009, in Waterloo.

He was formerly employed as a teacher with Waterloo Community Schools, John Deere and Co., BPI and Walmart. He attended Jackson State College in Jackson, Miss., and had served in the U.S. Army.

Survived by: his wife; three daughters, Angie McGee of Waterloo, Kimberly Montgomery of Houston and Marilyn Culpepper of Waterloo; four sons, Anthony Culpepper of Waterloo, Terry (Charlotte) Culpepper of Arlington, Texas, Efonda Montgomery of Waterloo and Reginald (Theresa) Montgomery of Waterloo; two sisters, Mary F. Burke of Jackson, Miss., and Sharah MaCoy of California; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: his parents.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Payne Memorial A.M.E. Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 138 and VFW Post 1623. Public visitation from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Sanders Funeral Service and for an hour before services Thursday at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to 919 Newell St., where the family will receive friends.
