WATERLOO - Raymond H. "Whitey" Winning, 77, of Waterloo, died at home Saturday, May 1.
He was born Jan. 26, 1933, in Sumner, son of Fredrick and Sophia Stoffregen Winning.
He was a 1950 graduate of Waterloo East High School. Mr. Winning worked for John Deere Co. for 32 years, retiring in 1987. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War from 1950-52. His memberships included UAW Local 838 and the National Rifle Association.
Survived by: three daughters, Arleen Kugler (fiance Troy Steffy) and Cindy (Steve Nelson), both of Waterloo, and Angela Sullivan of Stout; six grandchildren, Daniel Sturtz, Crystal Flowers, Christopher Sullivan, Michael Kugler, Dustin Sullivan and Stevie Nelson; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen (Gene) Matthews of Waterloo.
Preceded in death by: four brothers, Arnold, Lawrence, Harold and Freddy; and two sisters, Florence Barnett and Darlene Hillshiem.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Garden View Chapel, with burial and full military honors by Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138 and VFW Post 1623 in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation for an hour before services Wednesday at the chapel. There will be a celebration of life gathering at Narey's 19th Hole following committal.
Whitey enjoyed trap shooting and was a great shot. He loved being outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing and camping in his RV.
