WATERLOO — Bessie Lee Friis, 85, of Waterloo, died Saturday, May 1, at her daughter's home in Steedman, Mo.

She was born Jan. 13, 1925, in Latonia, Ky., daughter of Dolien and Anna A. Wever Richerson. She married Eugene Clinton Friis on May 17, 1952, in Covington, Ky. He died June 20, 1999.

Mrs. Friis worked at Allen Hospital for 25 years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of Cedar Valley Community Church and was a Red Cross volunteer.

Survived by: a daughter, Faith (Woody) Woodson of Steedman; two sons, Joseph (Suzanne) Leist of Crittenden, Ky., and Arthur "Sonny" (Kay) Friis of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Margaret Oder of Springfield, Ohio, and Gertrude Richerson of Crittenden.

Preceded in death by: her parents; a daughter, Hazel Link; two brothers, Bud and Joe Richerson; and two sisters, Lillian Richerson and Irene Crawley.

Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel, Waterloo, with burial at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Poland Cemetery, Marathon. Public visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and for an hour before services Wednesday at the funeral chapel.

Memorials: may be directed to the Open Bible Church Haitian Relief Fund, 1911 E Ave. N.W., Cedar Rapids 52404.
