WATERLOO - Grace Ann Fernau, 65, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, April 27, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home of cancer.

She was born Jan. 12, 1945, in Independence, daughter of Emil and Madeline Waerenborg Versluis. She married Norman Fernau on May 4, 1973, in Waterloo. He died Oct. 18, 2006.

Mrs. Fernau had been a secretary at Warren Transport, and most recently was employed at Covenant Medical Center in environmental services.

Survived by: a son, Roger (Mindy) Meirick of Waterloo; three daughters, Kim Porterfield and Nikki (Jason) Hoeppner, both of Waterloo, and Melodie (Jeremy) Wittgreve of Morrison; four grandchildren, Hanna Porterfield, Meriah and Auston Wittgreve, and Chesney Hoeppner; three brothers, Jim Versluis of Arizona, Ron (Nancy) Versluis of Cedar Falls and Bob (Babe) Versluis of Waterloo; and five sisters, Audrie Hahn, Jane (Ron) Lickiss and Jean Welchof, all of Oelwein, Helen Fernau of Raymond and Fritz Meier of Janesville.

Preceded in death by: her parents; and a brother, Tom Versluis.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. today and for an hour before services Friday at the chapel.

Memorials: may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or the family.

Grace enjoyed gardening in her flower garden and would pick flowers and weed. Most of all, Grace loved her family dearly, especially her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
