WATERLOO — Robert Eugene Crippen, 77, of Waterloo, died Saturday, April 10, at Allen Hospital.

He was born Feb. 6, 1933, in Iowa City, son of John and Gladys Krause Crippen. On June 7, 1956, he married Joan Marie Morgan. On June 14, 1985, he married Joyce Mount. On Sept. 14, 2002, he married Lillian A. Wheat.

Mr. Crippen attended Burlington High School and received his GED through the U.S. Navy. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1953 and retired as a hospital corpsman chief petty officer with 21 years of service. After retiring he worked as a water treatment specialist in Palm Springs, Calif., and retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1991 after 10 years.

Survived by: his wife; four daughters, Darcey (Victor) Kendl of Racine, Wis., Kimberlee (Edward) Herman of Palm Desert, Calif., Victoria Galvan and Kellena Crippen, both of San Antonio; a son, Robert (Laurie) of Fairport, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren; stepchildren, Scott and Tammy, both of California, Margaret of Florida, Richard of Iowa, Kathy (Jeff) Stafford of Lenior, N.C., Tracy Wheat of Waterloo, and Marnae Tucker and Karyn (Dennis) Salmon, both of Cedar Falls; 20 stepgrandchildren; 13 stepgreat-grandchildren; a stepsister, Dorothy Warren; a sister, Loretta Standard; and a brother, Marvin Selby.

Preceded in death by: his first two wives; two sisters, Joan Crippen and Jeanette Young; a brother, Dirk Wheat; and a stepbrother, Charlie Owens.

Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hammond Avenue Brethren Church, with burial at a later date. Military rites will be conducted at the church. Public visitation from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service.
