CEDAR FALLS - Robert "Bob" Andrew Rath, 79, of Cedar Falls, died Thursday, March 11, at Country View Care Center, Waterloo.

He was born Sept. 28, 1930, in Creston, son of Andrew P. and Helen June Mitchell Rath.

Mr. Rath graduated from Cedar Falls High School and was employed as a journeyman meat cutter in the family store, Rath & Son Grocery of College Hill, and various other stores in the Cedar Falls/Waterloo area for many years.

Survived by: six sons, Michael of Cedar Falls, Keith (Melinda) of Shellsburg, Scott (Laurie) of North Liberty, William of San Diego, Jerry (Shelly) of Richmond, Va., and David of West Union; four daughters, Karen Rath (Tom) Hoeppner of New Hartford, Patricia Rath of Oskaloosa, Teresa Rath (Rob) Mabry of San Antonio and Joni Rath (Jerry) Nelson of Osceola; 22 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and his last American Quarter Horse, Banjo.

Preceded in death by: his parents; and a daughter, Laurie J. Rath.

Memorial services: 2 p.m. Saturday at Celebration First Assembly of God, Waterloo. Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Memorial fund: has been established at P.O. Box 450, Shellsburg, 52332, in lieu of flowers.

Bob was highly regarded as an accomplished horseman in the state of Iowa, training and showing many state champions.
