CEDAR FALLS - Leon C. Gunderson, 87, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, April 7, at the Elizabeth E. Martin Health Center, Western Home Communities, of natural causes.

He was born Jan. 6, 1923, in Kansas City, Mo., son of Clarence and Beatrice Johnson Gunderson. He was a 1941 graduate of Waterloo East High School and had worked in the office from 1951 to 1979 at Harry Diamond Labs, contracted through the Department of the Army, Adelphi, Md. He served in the U.S. Army; was a member of Evansdale AMVETS Post 31, the Elks in Sun City, Ariz., and Waterloo, and Waterloo American Legion Post 138.

Survived by: a sister, Marilyn Parmer of Evansdale; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: five brothers, Clarence, Robert Sr. and James Gunderson, and infants, Raymond Spiker and Joseph Gunderson; and a half sister, Geraldine Rhodes.

Graveside Services: 1 p.m. Friday at Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo. Military rites will be conducted by Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. His body was cremated. Locke Funeral Home, Waterloo, assisted with arrangements.

Memorials: may be directed to Veterans Memorial Hall or Cedar Bend Humane Society.
