LA PORTE CITY - Lawrence Ernest William "Larry" Mether, 91, of La Porte City, died Friday, April 2, at his home of natural causes.

He was born Feb. 3, 1919, in Gresham, son of Louis and Lydia Lipschol Mether. He married Virginia Bryant; they were later divorced. He married Judy Kerr Pullin on Aug. 22, 1981, in Hudson.

Mr. Mether was owner and operator of Larry's Drive Inn in Evansdale, La Porte City Dairy, Larry's Good Food in La Porte City, and Larry's Lounge in Waterloo. He worked at the Holiday Inn in Waterloo as a purchasing agent, after retirement he managed Heritage Condo Association in La Porte City until 1996. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II where he attained the rank 2nd lieutenant, receiving a purple heart and a bronze star.

Survived by: his wife, Judy; three daughters, Janice (Vic) Mahood of Lexington, Ky., Diane Rice of Sioux City and Dawn (Todd) Hess of La Porte City; three sons, Bobby Pullin of Willard, Mo., Dale (Desiree) Pullin of La Porte City, and Dennis (Jeanne) Pullin of Troy Mills; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Lloyd of Clinton; and two sisters-in-law, Lois Banse of Vinton and Pat Frakes-Dawson of Ruckersville, Va.

Preceded in death by: a brother, Venice.

Memorial Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul United Methodist Church, La Porte City. Military rites will be conducted by La Porte City American Legion San Diego Post 207 and VFW Post 3983. Private inurnment in West View Cemetery. Public visitation for an hour before services Thursday at the church. La Porte City Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.

Memorials: may be directed to St. Paul United Methodist Church in La Porte City or Care Initiatives Hospice, 6915 Chancellor Drive, Suite A, Cedar Falls.

Larry cherished his children and grandchildren. They were always the best looking and smartest kids. He was truly loved and will be greatly missed.
