WATERLOO — Jean Furneaux, 87, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, March 23, at Lakeview Landing of Friendship Village.

She was born Oct. 25, 1922, in Cedar Falls, daughter of Harve and Mildred Lamm Christensen. She married Galen R. Furneaux on June 8, 1944, in Hudson. He died May 2, 1979.

Mrs. Furneaux graduated from Hudson High School in 1941 and received her teaching certificate from the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, in 1943, and her bachelor’s degree in 1965. She taught in Palmer and Shell Rock before teaching second grade at Black Hawk Elementary from 1957 to 1985. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Iowa State Education Association, Association of Childhood Education, American Legion Auxiliary, Democratic Party, and was active in the Waterloo Summer Reading Program.

Survived by: two sons, Thomas (Fayeth Walton) of Cedar Falls and David (Teresa) of Des Moines; two grandchildren, Eugenia (Jason) Furneaux-Arends of Astoria, N.Y., and Benjamin Furneaux of Hong Kong; three sisters, Betty O’Brien of Clear Lake, Marlys (Harlan) Hughes of Cedar Falls and Ann (Bill) Randall of Houston; and two sisters-in-law, Nina (Delbert) Pudil of Cedar Falls and Deah Furneaux of Star City, Ark.

Preceded in death by: a sister, Marjorie Christensen; and two brothers-in-law, Lowell Furneaux and Harve O’Brien.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Waterloo First United Methodist Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Locke Funeral Home.
