EVANSDALE - Marian F. Cookinham, 86, of Parkview Nursing and Rehab Center, Waterloo, formerly of Evansdale, died Wednesday, March 17, at Parkview from complications due to Alzheimer's disease.

She was born May 28, 1923, in Montour, daughter of James and Evelyn Adams McCoy. She married Glenn Surly and they later divorced. In 1968 she married Gene Cookinham at their home in Evansdale. He died in 1997.

Mrs. Cookinham was a graduate of Montour High School. She served as a nurse cadet during World War II and trained in Cook County, Chicago. She worked at many of the Cedar Valley hospitals, including both the old and new St. Francis, Schoitz and Parkview Nursing Home, retiring in 1982.

Survived by: a son, James (Sandy) Surly of Des Moines; two adopted daughters, Debra (Daniel) Desautels and Charlene (Kenneth) Fox, both of Marshalltown; two grandchildren, Shannon (Jeff) Jensen of Waterloo and Daniel "Jake" Desautels of Marshalltown; a brother, Lloyd (Marybeth) McCoy of Montour; and her best friend, Genevieve Kerfoot of Waterloo.

No memorial service will be held. Inurnment will take place in Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Ill., on Monday.

Memorials: may be directed to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa in Des Moines.
