WATERLOO -- Robert M. Bellis, 77, of Fremont, Neb., formerly of Waterloo, died Monday, Nov. 15, 1999, at Fremont Area Medical Center of natural causes.

He was born Dec. 23, 1921, in Waterloo, son of Verne and Mayme Nehlsen Bellis. He married June Hoffman on Nov. 5, 1942, in Waterloo.

Mr. Bellis was a U.S. Navy veteran. He operated Standard Oil Service Station, then became a company representative for Standard Oil in Iowa and Nebraska. After retiring he assisted the owner of Nielsen Oil & Propane Co. in West Point, Neb.

Survived by: his wife; a daughter, Becky Mahnke of Central City, Neb.; a son, Dave of Worland, Wyo.; four grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia Miller of Hermiston, Ore., and Doris White of Overland Park, Kan.; and a brother, Jack of Cedar Falls.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Salem Lutheran Church, with burial in Memorial Cemetery, both in Fremont. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Fremont Honor Guard of American Legion Post 20 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 854. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Ludwigsen Mortuary, Fremont, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Visitation also for an hour before services Friday at the church.
