WATERLOO - Ila Marie Kastli Phares, 73, of Waterloo, formerly of Wilton and Bettendorf, died Wednesday, March 3, at Allen Hospital of cancer.

She was born Nov. 20, 1936, in Oelwein, daughter of Ernest and Dorothy Warnke Kastli. She married Paul C. Phares in 1963 in Davenport. He died in 1965. She married Guy "William" E. Phares on Feb. 3, 1968, in Davenport. He died Aug. 14, 1991.

She graduated from Tripoli High School in 1954. She worked in school cafeterias for Bettendorf School System, was a Certified Nurse Assistant in Davenport and Bettendorf, and did secretarial work and worked at the U.S. Post Office in Wilton. She was a member and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9128 of Bettendorf.

Survived by: two sons, James of Fort Madison and Keith (Shawn Reese) of Chicago; a grandchild; two great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Janet Teters of Frankfort, Ill., and Christine Phares-Ruble of Park View; three stepsons, Jim of Blue Grass, William of Davenport and John of Moline, Ill.; and three brothers, Jim of Fairbank, Al of Waterloo and Tom Kastli of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by: a stepdaughter, Sandy; a sister, Violet; and two brothers, George and Don.

Celebration of Life: 1 p.m. Tuesday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf, with burial in Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Ill. Public visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials: may be directed to the American Cancer Society.

Ila enjoyed traveling, spending time on casino boats, doing crochet, camping, working beyond age 65 and family gatherings.
