Pvt. Charles H. Barnes Killed In Action; Was Member Co. B, Waterloo

Independence, Ia., Oct. 15. -- Word has been received here that Private Charles H. Barnes was killed in action in France, Sept. 22. Private Barnes was born March 28, 1889, at Manchester. He came to Independence with his parents at the age of 13. He had been a member of the Iowa national guard for many years and at the time war broke out was a member of Co. B, Waterloo. He was later transferred to the Rainbow division. He was married to Miss Myra Wood in 1910 and to them one child was born, Lulla, now seven years of age. He is also survived by several brothers and sisters.

Memorial services will be held in the Baptist church here next Sunday morning.
