CEDAR FALLS - James "Ray" Cannon, 85, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, at Western Home Communities Elizabeth Martin Health Center.

He was born March 4, 1924, in Belle Plaine, son of Cloyd and Eva Merrick Cannon. He married Darlene Koch on March 2, 1946, in St. Anthony.

Mr. Cannon graduated from Melbourne High School, Melbourne, and Hawkeye Institute of Technology (Hawkeye Community College), Waterloo. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a professional photographer for 44 years and an instructor at Hawkeye Institute of Technology for six years. He was past president of the Cedar Falls Kiwanis Club, where he was a member for more than 30 years.

Survived by: his wife; three daughters, Cathy (Phil) Petersen of San Diego, Cheri (Gary) Williams of Kansas City, Mo., and Susie (Don) Christensen of Sergeant Bluff; six grandchildren, Laura (Chris) Reich, Adam (Kristen) Cannon, Nic Bartels, Shelby Bartels, Alisa Christensen and Eric Christensen; three great-grandchildren, David Reich, Kate Cannon and Matt Cannon; and a sister, Rosiva O'Donnell, of Valley, Neb.

Preceded in death by: his parents, a son, Douglas; two brothers, Rhett and Cloyd Jr.; a sister, Cloydine Anselme; and a half sister, Martha Hartke.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, with private inurnment in Fairview Cemetery. Public visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home.

Memorials: may be directed to the church, Western Home Communities or Cedar Valley Hospice.

James was a very active member of his church.
