WATERLOO — Richard Bruce "Dick" Barron, 78, of Highland, Ill., formerly of Waterloo, died at home Sunday, Feb. 14.

He was born June 17, 1931, in Kansas City, Mo., adopted son of Homer D. and Ruth M. Stoner Barron. He married Kathleen Rose Luttrell on April 9, 1952, in Waterloo.

Mr. Barron was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, spending two years on a destroyer in the South Pacific. He then worked with his father, owning and operating Merchant’s Delivery, Waterloo. He operated Stuckey’s Pecan Shoppe in Alabama, then a Stuckey’s in Highland and in Florida. He returned to Highland and operated B&L Quick Shop for six years. He worked at Wray’s County Store for several years, then at Tru Value Hardware, Highland, and as a locksmith at Waylind and Tru Value, retiring in 2001.

Survived by: his wife; two daughters, Michelle K. "Mickee" (Ronald) Hochuli and Julie A. (Michael) Skelt, both of Highland; a son, Scott R. of Granite City, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Geraldine Walter of Denver.

Preceded in death by: two brothers, Bill and Don; and a grandson.

Services: 7 p.m. today at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home, Highland, with burial at 11 a.m. Thursday in Highland City Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Posts of Highland. Public visitation from 4 p.m. until services at the funeral home.

Memorials: may be directed to Hospice of Southern Illinois or Alzheimer’s Association
