EVANSDALE — Russell J. Lavenz, 57, of Evansdale, died Saturday, Jan. 23, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, of natural causes.

He was born Feb. 7, 1952, in Waterloo, son of Joseph and Mabel Murray Lavenz. He married Jill Ann Fetsch in 1974 in Indiana. She preceded him in death. On May 7, 1994, he married Ginger Smith in Waterloo.

Mr. Lavenz was a self-employed welder and was a member of Countryside Vineyard Church, Evansdale. He was a member of AA for many years.

Survived by: his wife; a daughter, Dana (Jeremy) Meyer of Evansdale; a son, Brian of Fort Dodge; two granddaughters, Alison Meyer and Kylie Roney-Lavenz; a stepson, Dustin Stone of Waterloo; two stepdaughters, Jacquie Tatum of Waterloo and Tina Marie (Don) Britt of Des Moines; and two sisters, Joyce and Sherry.

Preceded in death by: his parents.

Memorial services: 6 p.m. Friday at Countryside Vineyard Church, 3467 Lafayette Road, Evansdale. Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, Waterloo, assisted the family.

Memorials: may be directed to the church.

Russell enjoyed flying ultra light airplanes, Harley Davidson motorcycles, playing guitar and making stained glass. He also was anxiously awaiting the very near arrival of a new grandchild and great-grandchild.
