WATERLOO - David R. Dyer, 76, of Waterloo, died Thursday, Dec. 31, at University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics, Iowa City, of chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

He was born Aug. 11, 1933, in Philippi, W. Va., son of Clifford and Blanche Zinn Dyer. He married Sondra Croll on June 25, 1960, in Waterloo.

He was a graduate of Philippi High School and then graduated from West Virginia University in 1956 with a BS degree in agricultural engineering. Mr. Dyer was an engineer at John Deere Product Engineering Center, retiring in 1987 after 31 years.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958 and 1961-62. He was past treasurer of Friends of the Library from 1990-2003, past president of the Rensselaer Russell House in 1976, past president of Splash Swim Club in 1978, and a member of Waterloo Optimist Club.

Survived by: his wife; a son, Jeff of Union City, Mich.; a daughter, Karen (Dirk) Beekman of Saline, Mich.; and four grandchildren, DJ and Darrien Dyer and Tad and Ellie Beekman.

Preceded in death by: his parents; and a brother, Philip.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Locke Funeral Home, where there will be public Masonic services at 7 p.m. by Waterloo Lodge #105 A.F. & A.M.
