WATERLOO - Calvin Strong, 74, of Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center, died Thursday, Dec. 31, at Ravenwood of natural causes.

He was born Oct. 19, 1935, in Holly Grove, Ark., son of Sylvester Strong and Agnes Mayo. He married Janice Tyson, and they were later divorced. He then married Barbara Reed.

A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Strong was formerly employed at John Deere for 30 years.

Survived by: his wife; a son, Calvin T. (Tracy) of Sharon, Mass.; three daughters, Sandra D. (Ferris) Hunter of Katy, Texas, Angela Strong of Waterloo and Carmen Strong of Lincoln, Neb.; a brother, Aaron of Elk Grove, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: an infant child; four brothers, Willie, Freddie, Titus and Sylvester Jr.; and six sisters, Maggie, Octavia, Lubertha, Arrella, Nevada and Juanita.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Union Missionary Baptist Church, with burial in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 138 and VFW Post 1623 at the church. Public visitation from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church. Sanders Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials: may be directed to the family at 544 Archer St., where they will receive friends.
