WATERLOO - Venella Dunn Byrd, 86, of 533 Beech St., died Tuesday, Dec. 29, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home of natural causes.

She was born Dec. 25, 1922, in Pine Bluff, Ark., daughter of Mae Ella Williams and Oliver Foster. She married Palmer Byrd on Sept. 25, 1950. He preceded her in death.

She was an outreach worker for the Jesse Cosby Neighborhood Center, becoming director in 1968, and retiring in 1982. She served as president of the Waterloo Quota Club in 1978 and was president of the Waterloo Women's Civic Club and Grant Elementary PTA.

She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

Survived by: a daughter, Michelle R. Williams of Waterloo; four sons, Aaron W. of Los Angeles, Palmer II of Davenport, Reginald of Denver, Colo., and Marc A. of Waterloo; two sisters, Bertha Glover of Pine Bluff and Flossie Anderson of Waterloo; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: three sisters, Desta McBride, Doris Lomax and Arnetta Tate.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Antioch Baptist Church, with burial in the Garden of Memories. Public visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the church, and for an hour before services Monday at the church. Sanders Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials: may be directed to the family at 533 Beech St., where they will receive friends.
