CEDAR FALLS - Harvey A. Byggere, 98, of Cedar Falls, died Thursday, Dec. 24, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo.

He was born July 25, 1911, in Royal, son of James and Sena Anderson Byggere. He married Gertrude M. McCormick on Jan. 19, 1946, in Worthington, Minn.

He attended Iowa State Teachers College High School, Cedar Falls, and Gates Business College, Waterloo. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre of Operations.

Mr. Byggere was employed at Rath Packing Company and retired from John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works after more than 25 years of service. He was a member of Cedar Falls American Legion Post 237 for 64 years. He also was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and Shamrocks, and the College Square Coffee Group.

Survived by: his wife; and a daughter, Mary Louise (Gordon Pint) Byggere of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by: his parents; grandparents; and two brothers, Clarence and Elmer.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Public visitation from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary service. Visitation also for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to the church or Cedar Valley Hospice.

He was an avid gardener and was never seen without Gertrude by his side.
