WATERLOO — Merle Jean Lampe, 86, of Parkview Nursing and Rehab Center, Waterloo, died Wednesday, Nov. 25, at Covenant Medical Center from complications of Alzheimer’s disease.

She was born Dec. 31, 1922, in Waverly, daughter of Howard and Berniece Mae Colburn Burman. She married Lester A. Lampe Jan. 14, 1945, at First Baptist Church, Waverly. He died in June 1995.

Mrs. Lampe graduated from Janesville High School in 1940 and attended Wartburg College in Waverly for a year. She was employed at First National Bank of Waterloo. She farmed with her husband farmed outside of Waverly for several years, and she worked at First National Bank, Waverly, at the registrar’s office at the University of Northern Iowa and at the Allen Hospital School of Nursing. They moved to a farm north of Waterloo in 1952, retiring in 1985.

Survived by: a daughter, Karen Lampe of Creston; a son, Stephen (Deborah) of Fort Calhoun, Neb.; a brother, Bill Burman of Janesville; two sisters, Janette (James) Mehmen of Waverly and Barbara (Carl) of Silvis, Ill.; and five sisters-in-law, Lu Dirks and Darlene (Paul) Plaehn, both of Reinbeck, Georgia Fangmeier of Osage, Carol (Robert) Shaw of Bondurant and Susan Lampe of Plattsmouth, Neb.

Preceded in death by: two sisters-in-law, Jo Burman and Estelle Bunger; and six brothers-in-law Ralph Dirks, Ed Bunger, Dave Fangmeier, Paul Lampe, Ernest Lampe Jr., and Wallace (Dean) Lampe.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Garden of Memories Mausoleum, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo. Public visitation for an hour before the service. Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials: may be directed to Parkview Nursing and Rehab Center’s Resident Activity Fund.
