WATERLOO — Agnes L. Sterner, 93, of Friendship Village died Thursday, Nov. 26, at Covenant Medical Center.

She was born Oct. 2, 1916, in Putnam County, Mo., daughter of Arla and Iva Wheeler Billington. She married George E. Sterner on May 28, 1936, in Galena, Ill. He died Dec. 10, 1969. She later married David Yarrington and Jacob Arends.

Mrs. Sterner attended East High School and Hawkeye Community College. She worked as a “Rosie the Riveter” at Chamberlain Manufacturing Co. during World War II and at Covenant Medical Center, retiring in 1978.

Survived by: two daughters, Lillian Hile and Iva Hall, both of Waterloo; three grandsons, Scott and Randy Hile of Waterloo and Mike (Heather) Hall of Dysart; a granddaughter: Susan (Brian) Sayer of Waterloo; three great-granddaughters, Sophia and Alexandra Hall of Dysart and Emily Sayer of Waterloo; a sister, Veta Huff of Licking, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Fern Sterner of Balwin, Mo.; three 3 stepgrandchildren, Mark (Linda) Kuhn, Gail O’Connor and Jan Grogan, all of Tulsa, Okla.; four stepgreat-grandchildren, Shane Grogan of New York City and Chelsea Grogan, Tristin Kuhn and Stefan Kuhn, all of Tulsa; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceded in death by: her husband; her parents; her stepmother, Jessie Ammerman; stepdaughter, Lois Kuhn; and three sons-in-law, Darrell Kuhn, Melvin Hile and Dennis Hall.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Kimball Ave United Methodist Church, with burial in Waterloo Cemetery. Public visitation from 1 to 3 p.m. today at Locke Funeral Home .

Memorials: may be directed to Kimball Avenue United Methodist Church or Friendship Village.
