CEDAR FALLS - Ernest Doeden, 80, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, at home.

He was born June 9, 1929, in Butler County, son of Ernest W. and Ella Bergman Doeden. He married Beverly Joyce Hoff on July 17, 1954, at Grace Methodist Church, Waterloo.

He was a graduate of New Hartford High School and Ellsworth Community College, Iowa Falls. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked at Shepherd Lumber Co. in Waterloo and Barnes Lumber Co. in Cedar Falls, retiring in 1996.

Mr. Doeden was a member of Northeast Iowa Homebuilders Association Hall of Fame.

Survived by: his wife; a son, Ernest L. (Dawn) of Cedar Falls; three daughters, Susan D. (Steve) Spinelli of Lees Summit, Mo., Carol A. (Tony) Layton of Weston, Mo., and Jane M. (Terry) Logan of Blairs, Va.; 11 grandchildren; and a brother, Thomas A. (Ila) of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by: his parents; three sisters, Geraldine Huisman, Anna Ramige and Grace Johnson; and four brothers, George, Joe, Omke and James.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, Cedar Falls, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo. Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials: may be directed to First Presbyterian Church, Cedar Valley Hospice or Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49.
