WATERLOO - Dennis Lee Schwem, 66, of Waterloo, died at home Thursday, Nov. 12.

He was born Sept. 6, 1943, in Tripoli, son of Loraine C. and Elnora L. Niemeyer Schwem. He married Bertha Campbell, and they later divorced.

Mr. Schwem graduated from Tripoli High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He worked on the assembly line at Terex Crane Service, Waverly, formerly known as Schield Bantam Crane. He moved to Huntsville, Ala., 11 or 12 years ago, and then returned to the area in 2007.

Survived by: two sons, Joshua of Mountain View, Ark., and Jeremy (Kathy) of Springdale, Ark.; three daughters, Debbie (Curtis) Conner of St. Paul, Ark., Victoria (Curtis) Hipps of Doniphan, Mo., and Kimberly Smith of Lowell, Ark.; 11 grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; three great-grandsons; four brothers, Romaine of Waterloo, Steven of Viroqua, Wis., Jerry (Lucille) of Gays Mills, Wis., and Mark (Connie Bauer) of Garner; and three sisters, Myrna Casta of Waterloo, Marlene (Steve) Knapp of Westgate and Margaret DeLong of Tripoli.

Preceded in death by: his parents; a son, Jerome; a sister-in-law, Shirley Schwem; and two brothers-in-law, Alvin Casta and William DeLong.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 138 and VFW Post 1623. Public visitation for an hour before services Wednesday at the funeral home.
