WATERLOO - M. James Glaza, 81, of Waterloo, died Monday, Nov. 9, at Ravenwood Nursing & Rehab Center.

He was born Nov. 18, 1927, in Waterloo, son of Martin J. and Ruth P. Guilford Glaza. He married Joan Demuth on June 7, 1952, in Waterloo.

Mr. Glaza graduated from Sacred Heart High School and attended Ellsworth Community College and the University of Wichita. He was employed with Montgomery Ward for several years and was a rehabilitation counselor with the Iowa Department for the Blind for 28 years, retiring in 1992.

He was a past district governor of the Lions Club, served on the St. John’s Catholic Church Parish Council, and was past president of the Iowa Rehabilitation Association, a member of the Human Rights Commission and past chairman of the Board of Goodwill Industries. He was awarded Father of the Year from the Chamber of Commerce in 1970 and the National Volunteer of the Year award from Goodwill Industries in 1997.

Survived by: his wife; a daughter, Marian (Roger) Raum of Greenfield; five sons, Robert (Debbie) of Veradale, Wash., Paul (Coleen) of Manchester, Philip (Debbie Wesely) and Thomas (Mona), both of Waterloo, and Andrew (Connie Boldt) of Traer; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Richard (Nancy) of Des Moines.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with entombment in Mount Olivet Columbarium. Public visitation from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. Legion of Mary, a 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus rosary and a 7:30 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also an hour before services Friday at the church.
